Autowatch Ghost II Installation Across Yorkshire — The Silent Immobiliser Thieves Can't Bypass

A tracker recovers your vehicle after the theft. Autowatch Ghost II stops it being stolen in the first place. It is a CAN-bus immobiliser hidden inside the vehicle's existing wiring — no LED, no key fob, no RF signal — that disables the engine until you enter a PIN sequence on buttons you already use.

  • PIN sequence on existing buttons
  • No LED, no RF, no key fob
  • Invisible to diagnostic scanners
  • Service and Valet modes

How Autowatch Ghost II actually works

Ghost II is a small ECU that sits on your vehicle’s CAN bus — the same network your steering-wheel buttons, indicators, door switches and pedals already use. It listens for a disarm sequence of presses you have configured, in an order only you know.

PIN sequence on existing buttons

You set a sequence of up to 20 inputs using buttons already inside the car. There is no keypad, LED or fob to find.

CAN-bus integration

Ghost II piggybacks on the existing vehicle data network. Installation is non-invasive and leaves no obvious aftermarket footprint.

No LED, no RF, no diagnostic footprint

Conventional alarms broadcast their presence. Ghost II stays silent and invisible until a thief tries to drive the vehicle.

Service and Valet modes

Dealer service, MOT and valet handovers are covered with controlled modes that let the vehicle drive normally when needed.

Why modern vehicles are so easy to steal — and what Ghost II changes

Most vehicles built since 2017 ship with keyless entry and start, an OBD port accessible within seconds, and a CAN bus that is well documented in workshop forums and on the chop-shop circuit. The factory immobiliser is no longer the obstacle it was.

Relay attack on keyless cars

Two thieves, two devices: one near your house captures the key signal through the wall; the other amplifies it at your door handle. The car unlocks, the start button works, and the immobiliser disarms with a cloned authorisation. Read our guide on how relay attacks work to understand the vulnerability in depth.

What Ghost II changes: the CAN immobiliser does not care that the start button worked. It refuses to release the engine until the PIN sequence is entered.

OBD port cloning

Smash a window, plug a coding tool into the OBD port, programme a blank key, drive away. Most factory immobilisers can be defeated this way in 60–120 seconds. See exactly how OBD port theft works in our Academy.

What Ghost II changes: the OBD coding tool can clone the factory key all it likes — the car still will not run without the PIN.

How we install your Ghost II

Three stages

  1. 01

    Pre-fit

Vehicle compatibility · PIN style · fixed price

Confirm year, model, trim, factory immobiliser type and any existing aftermarket security. We discuss which buttons you prefer to use and quote a fixed price.

  2. 02

    On the day

Hidden ECU · CAN programming · sequence setup

Hidden-fit ECU into the CAN bus at a non-obvious point, programmed and tested. Sequence configured with you on the vehicle. Typical install: 2–3 hours.

  3. 03

    Post-fit

Service mode · Valet mode · fitment letter

You leave with a working Ghost II, a safe reset procedure and confirmation of fitment. We can supply a fitment letter for your insurer on request.

Stack: Ghost II + S5/S7 tracker

The strongest install most owners can buy is a Ghost II + S5 tracker stack:

  • Ghost II stops the engine starting → the theft attempt fails on your driveway.
  • S5 tracker runs in parallel → if the vehicle is ever loaded onto a flatbed, 24/7 ADR control room recovers it.

For mid-value vehicles, Ghost II + S7 delivers the same prevention with self-monitored recovery at a lower subscription.

S5 Tracker Installation · S7 Tracker Installation

Non-invasive install, dealer servicing and removal

  • Non-invasive: Ghost II connects to the existing CAN bus with no cuts, no splices and no removed components.
  • Dealer servicing: main dealer service, MOT and software updates work normally. Service mode covers any longer dealer visits.
  • Removal: Ghost II is removable and re-fittable to a new vehicle.

Questions we're asked most

Frequently asked questions

Is the Ghost II install non-invasive?

Yes. There are no cuts, no splices and no removed components. We follow the Autowatch install procedure.

Can a thief bypass it with a diagnostic tool?

No. Ghost II is not a conventional alarm and does not appear in the OBD diagnostic tree. There is no obvious module to disable.

What if the Ghost II battery dies?

Ghost II has no separate battery. It is powered by the vehicle electrical system and draws negligible standby current.

Will my main dealer still be able to service the car?

Yes. Switch into Service mode for any dealer visit and the vehicle drives normally.

How long is the PIN sequence?

Up to 20 inputs. Most owners pick 4–6 — long enough to be safe, short enough to remember.

Can I change the sequence later?

Yes. There is a reset procedure that lets you change the PIN at any time.

What if I forget my PIN?

The unit can be reset using the manufacturer recovery procedure. Bring the car to us or we come to you and re-pair it.

Can Ghost II be removed and fitted to my next car?

Yes — and we offer a discounted re-fit if you bring it back to us.

Does my insurer recognise Ghost II?

Many do, particularly in combination with a Thatcham S5 or S7. We provide a fitment letter on request.
