Does LV= Require a Tracker? The Installer's Guide to LV=-Approved Fitting
LV= (Liverpool Victoria) is one of the UK's more risk-selective mainstream insurers, with a customer base skewing slightly older and a conservative approach to theft-attractive vehicles. Tracker conditions are vehicle- and risk-specific: family cars often have no requirement; premium SUVs, high-spec 4x4s and performance cars frequently specify Thatcham CAT S5 above a value threshold. We install for LV= customers across Yorkshire and send the certificate to LV= the day we fit.

LV= in one paragraph
LV= (Liverpool Victoria) is a mutual-heritage UK insurer (now part of Allianz) with a strong motor book and a reputation for thorough underwriting. Security conditions on LV= policies tend to be proportional to vehicle risk — modest on standard family cars, prescriptive on premium and keyless cars.

Important
LV= Britannia Rescue / Breakdown & Security
LV= offers breakdown under the Britannia Rescue brand. The two are separate products but some customers bundle them — if your LV= motor policy has a tracker condition and your Britannia Rescue policy covers theft recovery, make sure both documents are consistent.
- A Thatcham S5 tracker doesn't replace breakdown cover — it sits alongside it, handling theft recovery specifically.

How to check your own LV= schedule
Open your LV= policy PDF. Look for:
- "Endorsements"
- "Policy Conditions"
- "Security requirements"
- Any reference to "Thatcham", "CAT S5", "CAT S7" or "tracker".
Not sure? WhatsApp a photo of the Endorsements / Security page — we read LV= wording every day.
Category accepted
Which Thatcham category LV= accepts
"Thatcham approved" wording: S5 or S7 both satisfy.
"Thatcham CAT S5" wording: only S5. S7 won't.
Named-brand wording occasionally appears on high-value policies — fit the named brand.

Ghost II
Ghost II alongside an LV= policy
LV= informally recognises Ghost II as a positive risk factor, particularly on keyless cars. For premium Range Rovers, Defenders, high-spec German marques and high-value classics, the Ghost II + S5 stack is the installer-recommended combination and aligns with how LV= underwrites security risk.

Questions we're asked most
LV= tracker FAQs
Will LV= accept any Thatcham-approved tracker?
Yes — LV= accepts any Thatcham-approved UK brand.
Does LV= accept S7 on a Range Rover?
Usually no — premium SUVs typically require S5. Read your schedule or WhatsApp us the wording.
How quickly does LV= process the certificate?
Usually a few working days after receipt.
Can I fit a tracker mid-policy?
Yes — most customers fit mid-policy and re-rate at renewal.
Does LV= reduce theft excess on S5-fitted vehicles?
Sometimes — ask your LV= renewal team.
Is LV= stricter than Admiral or Aviva?
Broadly comparable on mainstream; slightly more prescriptive on higher-value policies in our experience.
Can I use the same tracker if I switch insurer?
Yes — the tracker isn't tied to an insurer. The certificate is valid for any UK insurer.
My LV= policy requires a tracker but my classic car is rarely driven — is there a lower-subscription option?
Yes — MetaTrak's lifetime subscription and Trackstar's annual tiers both suit low-usage classics. We'll recommend per car.
