Range Rover Tracker & Ghost Immobiliser Installation Across Yorkshire — Thatcham S5, Insurance-Approved, Mobile-Fitted
The Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Evoque and Discovery family are the most-stolen premium SUVs in Yorkshire — and they're the vehicles we fit more trackers and Ghost II immobilisers on than any other. Insurance schedules on current-generation Range Rovers almost always specify Thatcham CAT S5, most policies accept a handful of named brands (MetaTrak, Scorpion, SmarTrack, Trackstar), and the thefts that actually happen use the same relay-attack / OBD-cloning playbook every time.

Why Range Rovers are stolen
West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside Police data consistently places the Range Rover family at or near the top of the regional theft-loss table. Three attack methods dominate:
Relay attack
< 60 secTwo devices — one near the house capturing the key signal through the wall, one at the driveway repeating it. The Range Rover unlocks, the start button works. Under a minute.
OBD port cloning
60–120 secBreak a window, plug a coding tool into the OBD port, programme a blank key, drive away. Works on every current Range Rover without an aftermarket immobiliser.
Port-of-export exfil
2–4 hoursMost stolen Range Rovers are in a container on the A63/M62 corridor toward Hull or Immingham within 2–4 hours. S5 ADR recovery closes that window.
The recommended stack
What to fit on every Range Rover
Each product addresses a different stage of the same attack chain. Ghost II prevents the theft; the S5 tracker recovers if it ever moves.
Most high-value Range Rovers get all three on the same install visit.
Autowatch Ghost II
CAN-bus immobiliser hidden inside existing wiring. Engine won't start without your PIN sequence. Defeats relay and OBD cloning at source.
Ghost II installation →Thatcham S5 Tracker
Driver recognition tags + 24/7 ADR control room. Vehicle moves without a paired tag — control room calls you within seconds, police within minutes.
S5 installation →Thinkware Dash Cam
Parking-mode footage of any attempted attack, cabin footage for claim evidence. Particularly useful on driveway-parked Range Rovers.

Brand recommendation
Which brand we fit on which Range Rover
| Range Rover | First-choice brand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| L460 Range Rover (current) | MetaTrak or Scorpion | Both have up-to-date procedures; MetaTrak edges it on lifetime-subscription owners |
| L461 RR Sport (current) | MetaTrak | Clean CAN integration, Range Rover specialism |
| L494 RR Sport | Scorpion or MetaTrak | Mature procedures on both |
| L405 Range Rover | MetaTrak lifetime | Long-term keepers; lifetime subscription pays off |
| Velar | MetaTrak or Scorpion | Either works cleanly |
| Evoque (S7 accepted) | SmarTrack S7 | Lower subscription tier appropriate to vehicle value |
All five brands can fit any Range Rover — the table shows our first-pick under typical conditions. Your insurer's accepted-brand list overrides our default.

Ghost II on Range Rover
Ghost II is a CAN-bus immobiliser hidden inside the Range Rover's existing wiring. The engine won't start until you enter a PIN sequence using your steering wheel, indicator stalk, door and console buttons. No LED, no RF, no OBD footprint. Defeats relay attack and OBD cloning at source. InControl, ADAS, park assist and drive modes all function normally.

Frequently asked
Range Rover FAQs
Will fitting a tracker or Ghost II interfere with InControl or factory features?
No. Ghost II is CAN-bus-listening, not CAN-bus-interrupting. InControl, ADAS, park assist and drive modes all function normally.
Does the factory InControl tracking count as insurance-approved?
Usually no — factory telematics are not Thatcham-rated and rarely satisfy policy wording that specifies a Thatcham tracker.
Which brand is best on my Range Rover?
For current-gen L460/L461, MetaTrak and Scorpion are both excellent. For older L405/L494, add Trackstar. For Velar and Evoque, MetaTrak or SmarTrack. We recommend per insurer and vehicle.
Can you fit at my home in Harrogate / Leeds / York?
Yes — mobile fitting is our default. Most Range Rover installs happen on the customer's driveway.
How long is the install?
Stack (Ghost II + S5) typically 3.5–4.5 hours.
Can the Ghost II PIN be set long enough that I'd forget it?
We pick a sensible length together at install (usually 4–6 inputs) — long enough to be safe, short enough to remember. A reset procedure is documented.
My Range Rover has already been targeted once — what now?
Fit the full stack (Ghost II + S5 + dash cam) as soon as possible.
What's the difference between MetaTrak and Scorpion for my Range Rover?
Both are strong. MetaTrak has the lifetime-subscription option; Scorpion edges ahead on app polish. We recommend based on how long you intend to keep the car and your insurer's list.
Can I transfer the install to my next Range Rover?
Yes — tracker re-fits at a reduced labour rate, Ghost II re-fits similarly.
Does S7 satisfy my Range Rover insurer?
Depends on your schedule. Most premium Range Rovers require S5. Standard Evoques sometimes accept S7. Always verify the wording.
